The lotus flowers grow out of the murky waters of lakes and rivers, resting its petals under the waters during the night before blooming in the morning above the waters, untouched by the mud and darkness below the surface. The Kumuda is the “night lotus”, also known as the Egyptian white water-lily, that blooms in the moonlight instead of the sunlight.

Raven, Director & FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio
Raven began belly dancing in Oriental styles in 1996. She started intensive study in American Tribal Style® (ATS®) in 2004. She earned her first General Skills Certification in 2008 & her second in 2009. She earned her Teacher Training I & II certifications in 2009 from Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman. Teacher Training consisted of teaching the ATS moves and concepts in a real class setting in front of Carolena, the creator of ATS. This rigorous training prepared Raven for teaching and cultivating the ATS community in Las Vegas. As the only FCBD® ATS Certified Teacher in Las Vegas, Raven wishes to continue to grow the local ATS community in the spirit of friendship, support, and in line with the concepts of the Tribal Code.
As a testament to Raven’s passion and integrity within ATS and her ongoing good relationship with Carolena, in March 2009 she earned Sister Studio status with FatChanceBellyDance®. She founded Kumuda Tribal in June of 2009 in order to bring ATS® to the Las Vegas community. They perform at local and national events in the spirit of sisterhood, respect for each other and the dance. Carolena continues to train and mentor Raven. Feel free to drop Carolena a line at for a referral about Raven.
Raven has adopted a philosophy of “living ATS.” Commitment, teamwork, knowing when to be a leader and when to be a follower, creativity, patience and sisterhood are all elements in ATS which she feels are applicable to her daily life.

Chruszhet has been studying dance since she was a child. Her love for the performing arts began in tap and ballet. She studied jazz while in college, then discovered the freedom of movement in the culture of hip-hop dance. In 2007 she was introduced to Raqs Sharki. She immediately fell in love with the sensuality, fluidity and yet powerful core movements found in this Middle Eastern dance. She studied a variety of Middle Eastern dance styles and immersed herself in Tribal Fusion. In 2011, Chruszhet joined troupe, TABU with Raven and Virginie.
In 2009, Chruszhet began her ATS® training with Raven Sumner and quickly discovered that her training, however intense, would be worthwhile. She fell in love with the beauty and grace of the art but most importantly the camaraderie she developed with her dance sisters. She is inspired by FatChanceBellyDance® and has taken workshops with Carolena, Wendy, and Sandi.
